The announcement was made at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London, where he won 92,153 votes. Jeremy Hunt won 46,656 votes.
87.4% of Conservative members voted in the election, and 509 ballots were rejected.
After winning the election, Boris Johnson made a short speech outlining his plan.
He said, “We are going to energize the country – we are going to get Brexit done by October 31st, we’re going to take advantage of all the opportunities it will bring in a new spirit of can-do, and we are once again going to believe in ourselves and what we can achieve.”
